The Western States ® 100-Mile Endurance Run is the world’s oldest 100-mile trail race. Starting in Squaw Valley, California and ending 100.2 miles later. Following the historic Western States Trail, runners climb more than 18,000 feet and descend nearly 23,000 feet before they reach the finish line at Placer High School in Gordy’s hometown of Auburn, California.
It is held on the last weekend of June each year. I got to volunteer at the race and witness this spectacle of endurance last year, and was lucky enough to meet up with Gordy a couple of days later.
This is part 3 of my extended interview with Dr. Gordon Ainsleigh, which I recorded just after last year’s Western States 100.
In this final episode, we’ll wrap up my epic interview with Gordy Ainsleigh. In true to Gordy form we’ll hear some crazy stories about his time in school with professors who have only just retired from Western States. He tells the legendary tale of the chainsaw, why he started a Carnivore Club, and the Goat Doctor. He also gives a few pieces of advice for current and future chiropractic students, such as how to adjust a rib and why you shouldn’t start a practice right out of school.
Gordy certainly is a paradox of a man. In the last episode, you heard his opinion of philosophy, but in this part he’ll share his belief that he gets “help from the angels.”
